U probably figured it out already but in order to make everything else black and white: After making your selection just press-Ctrl+Ithis inverts your selection so that you can alter everything outside the original selection

i had the same problem :( but :) i worked it out a sec ago go onto dilouges at the top and then click on layers x hope u understand if not mail me back x x
